Postdoctoral Research Associates, University of Oxford

  • 28 Apr 2021
  • Oxford, UK

We invite applications for up to two Postdoctoral Research Associates to work with Professor Jose A. Carrillo on exciting research in the analysis of Nonlinear Aggregation-Diffusion PDE. These are full-time positions, fixed-term for two years each, and the post-holders will be based here at the Mathematical Institute, University of Oxford.

The successful candidates will conduct research pertaining to one of the main strands of the research proposal, which includes the mathematical modelling, scientific computing, and theoretical and numerical analysis of nonlinear aggregation/diffusions in mathematical biology and plasma physics. Within this, there are a number of specific topics which are available for research, for which a list of examples can be found in the job description. The candidates will manage their own academic research and administrative activities, write up their results for publication, present papers at conferences, contribute ideas for new research projects and represent the research group at meetings.

Applicants will be expected to have, or be close to completing, a PhD in mathematics or a related discipline, and possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline of theoretical and numerical analysis, mathematical modelling, and numerical simulations of PDE to work within established research programmes in the subtopic of aggregation-diffusion and kinetic problems in mathematical biology or plasma physics. They will have excellent communication skills, alongside the ability to manage their own academic research and associated activities.

We proudly hold a Race Equality Charter Bronze Award and a departmental Athena SWAN Silver Award, which guide our progress towards advancing racial and gender equality. As part of our commitment to openness, inclusivity and transparency, we would particularly welcome applications from women and black and minority ethnic candidates, who are currently under-represented in positions of this type at Oxford.

Please direct informal enquiries to the Recruitment Coordinator (email: vacancies@maths.ox.ac.uk), quoting vacancy reference 150166.

Applicants will be selected for interview purely based on their ability to satisfy the selection criteria as outlined in full in the job description. You will be required to upload a statement setting out how you meet the selection criteria, a curriculum vitae including full list of publications, a statement of research interests, and the contact details of two referees as part of your online application. (NOTE: Applicants are responsible for contacting their referees and making sure that their letters are received by the closing date).
