TitleUsing Feynman-Kac for systems of non-linear reaction-diffusion equations

AbstractAlmost 50 years ago, Murray Bramson has shown how the use of the Feynman-Kac representation for linear pdes can also give very precise results on the analysis of non-linear pdes, notably the F-KPP equation. In this talk I will discuss the possibility to use Feynman-Kac also for systems of coupled F-KPP equations. In a particular case I will show that this can not only provide nice results on the behaviour of wave speeds, but also very intuitive explanations. I will also discuss some ongoing work and open problems. This is joint work with Lisa Hartung.

TitleCocycleHunter: a topological tool for phase estimation in single-cell RNA-seq data

AbstractIn this talk I will introduce CocycleHunter, a tool for identifying and exploiting circular structure in single-cell RNAseq data, based on persistent cohomology in dimension one. Our method produces a system of statistically enriching gene sets for circular structure and provides a powerful, cohomology-based technique for estimating the phase of genes exhibiting cyclic expression patterns (gene cascades), which has been validated on synthetic RNA transcription models, as well as on real datasets related to the cell cycle, tissue re-generation, and senescence in diverse experimental conditions.

This is joint work, led by Kelly Maggs and Markus Youssef, with the collaboration of Cyril Pulver, Jovan Isa, Tâm Nguyên, Wouter Karthaus, and Paolo Dotto.
